Sigma Kappa

Sigma Kappa’s (https://www.sigmakappa.org/home) mission is to provide women lifelong opportunities and support for social, intellectual, and spiritual development by bringing women together to positively impact our community. Sigma Kappa was originally founded on November 9, 1874 at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. The Kappa Psi chapter (http://iupui.sigmakappa.org) was founded at Indiana University Purdue University on December 11, 2011. We have four values which include: Personal growth, friendship, loyalty, and service. We also have five philanthropies which spell out SIGMA: Sigma Kappa Foundation, Inherit the Earth, Gerontology, Maine Seacoast Mission, and Alzheimer’s research through the Alzheimer’s Association. We partner with the Alzheimer’s association every October to participate and raise money for the Walk to End Alz. The Kappa Psi chapter’s main goal is to allow women to find their place on campus and be able to connect with a group of women who thrive to live a lifelong fulfilling and purposeful life. Sigma Kappa has allowed women to make lifelong friendships, gain leadership opportunities, grow personally, and get involved with the community by providing service. Sigma Kappa women lead with heart and live by the motto: One Heart One Way.

I chose Sigma Kappa because of the instant connections I felt. As soon as I started talking to the women in the chapter I felt a sense of home and belonging. Being able to find my people who are always there to support me and watch me grow has been one of the best things I have ever experienced. Sigma Kappa truly will be my forever home where I can always be myself and feel valued.
